It is well established that a mother transfers brain energy to her child both during pregnancy and during breastfeeding. See for example here.
But do you know what Fret is? Have you heard about Deeksha?
Fret stands short for fluorescence energy transfer. It’s an application of nanotechnology developed by the scientists at Stanford University and the Carnegie Institution a few years ago. It transfers the levels of crucial chemicals in living brain cells involved in everything from learning to memory to mood and perception to nanosensors. See here.
Deeksha is a transfer of spiritual energy to the brain. Sounds a bit non-scientific, but there may exist some supporting evidence. Judge for yourself. Check pdf here.
Publicani is based on the assumption that it is possible to transfer intellect from one person to another. This thriller looks into social problems that such transfer would create. How far-stretched this assumption is? With explosion of Fret research we may not be too far away scientifically.
But socially, we are already there. The government creates special programs and allocates resources to people who in the government’s opinion need it the most. Programs like “No child left behind” and affirmative actions help certain group of people to get better education. The programs are based on transfer of money from one group of people to another to make the recipients smarter. The donors, “the rich,” could have used their money themselves to improve their intellect. What if they pay the money to the best scientists to get private lessons in whatever they want? Unfair?
Obama famously said: “I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.” What if he spreads your intellect around?

This post stopped me dead in my tracks. This is really harsh and frighteningly surreal.
Is this one of these “in the future” things? Or is this actually… I don’t know, this is freaky.

I don’t want anyone taking my intellect but maybe that’s just old-fashioned thinking. Isn’t it the height of selfishness to want to keep my excess intellect, the part I’ve devoted to storing Simpsons quotes and Star Trek trivia?
Perhaps if we’d all transferred our intellect to banking executives, we wouldn’t be in this financial mess.
Isn’t that worth thinking about? At least, so long as we can…

If it were up to me transferring our intellect to the scientists instead would be a better choice, to the people who are closer to understanding the process, maybe they would figure out a way of tranferring the intellect whilst maintaining the source of it.

I’d like to respond to the 3 previous comments.
Yes it is “really harsh and frighteningly surreal.” What if it was already happening? What could we really do about it at this point? I’d just like to hope it would be used towards the greater good of everyone not for selfish purposes. To help us learn and grow as a whole
F that if I want someone taking my intellect! But then again, if my knowledge of every Family Guy and American Dad episode can be used towards bettering our future then so be it. Giggity giggity
CSPAN would be a good start to get your intellect across to some high ranking bank officials… worth a try…
Transferring our intellect to the scientists… Who says we’re not already? it’ll just make it easier for them to pick and choose which brain is worth more when it’s up for grabs so they can study it more “intently”
* I mean every statement with good intent no wise cracks or sarcasm intended. I’m just up and bored and this seemed like an interesting topic

I would like to volunteer to share my intellect. I am a multi-stroke survivor who still suffers from seizures, and I believe I could help people overcome what I have! Please hit up my email!
